Why is there no warnings - why is this stuff not in the baby books?
What I have learn so far about pregnancy.
1. You V can swell up - yup - pretty uncomfortable - it is all the blood flow apparently and totally normal.
2. You can throw up in your second trimester - oh no you though morning sickness was only for the first trimester - think again my friends.
3. It is difficult to sleep - especially if you are not use to sleeping on your sides. I love to sleep on my back but apparently that is bad for baby - so it is best to sleep on your sides - well do any of the baby books say that can cause horrible hip pain - I think not.
4. Indigestion - it can get so bad that you cannot lay down - I actually had to sleep sitting up on Saturday night.
5. Emotions - I cry so easily - over nothing - and when I say cry - I mean sob - like cannot breath crazy sobbing.
6. Cramps - I knew to expect cramps - but not all over and especially not down near the V - I thought they would be around my belly button area - nope the baby is still low right now - so as he grows - I get cramps low.
7. Round Litgment Pain - not fun - very painful - but luckily it does not last long at all - but beware - get up very slowly and turn in bed very slowly.
I know I have so much more to learn about my body during pregnancy and all the things I will go through - but I just wanted to put this out there for people who did not know.
Also all of you moms out there that read this blog - help a girl out - let me know what to expect - tell me the horrible things that are going to or can happen to me and my body.

The discharge, and the sweating, down there...., I had twins and it was awful. I wore panty liners all the time and I changed my panties 3-4 times a day But worth it all. I would do it again and again! I would need a bigger house :)
After the baby is born (about 12 weeks after) you will start to lose your hair. Your thick beautiful hair that the prenatals helped with will be gone, and your hair will be thinner than normal. Also, your nose will get bigger, like wider. Its is awful and looks so weird.
Pre-pregnancy I was very much a stomach sleeper, and found adjusting to sleeping on my side really awful. At my last appt., I asked about this, and my midwife pretty much told me "sleep however you feel comfortable. If your position is such that it constrains your blood flow, you will either move or wake up and notice before such time that the restricted blood flow could cause a problem for your baby." I have been sleeping SO much better since then, now that I don't worry about trying to sleep "right".
Well we all know from my experience that morning sickness can be a fun three trimester experience.
The things that surprised me the most are the wider nose and hair loss. The amount of hair I am still loosing on a daily basis never ceases to amaze me. I wonder sometimes how I even have any left. Oh, and I now understand where the term baby bangs came from because I have them in full force at this point.
I was also surprised at how big I got so quickly. I mean I heard about popping overnight but it really does happen.
Invest in a snoogle to help you sleep on your side and relieve some of the hip pain.
Ok, I agree with the after PG hair loss at 3 months and the baby bangs...these make you look like you are bald in places.
I found that in my 3rd tri my legs and arms would fall asleep before I would. If you cant get a PG pillow a king sized pillow is great. At the end I was in our guestbed with 5 pillows getting about a half of nights sleep. Just imagine trying to turn over with a pillow in between your legs with a big belly and trying to keep the covers on and not wake up John....it is more of a flop and shakes the bed....oh so graceful!
Oh and after the baby is born you can't just jump back to sleeping on your belly b/c the post belly feels weird and jiggly and the milk in your boobs will make you wet the bed if you are on your belly; so you will still be on your sides and your hips will still hurt. I still clutch my king sized pillow in between my knees.
PS: my dr said sleep however you can that it will wake you up before you will hurt the baby. Pretty much your body knows to give the baby everything first (food, blood, oxygen). Not that I was able to sleep on my back b/c Chris would wake me up and make me roll over.
Yes the swelling and sweating and discharge down there are pretty gross. Also, I had terrible gas throughout my pregnancy and incontience in the last weeks. As far as the indigestion and heartburn, you don't have to live with that. Wish I had known what a lifesaver Zantac was. Finally at about 7 months I told my doctor how bad it was and how the Tums didn't help and he prescribed Zantac and it was great -- took care of all that heartburn and sleeplessness. It's completely safe but look into it and ask your doc. It might help!
Also, there's a book called "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" and it does talk about most of the realities of pregnancy that no one else mentions. It's pretty humorous too. Good luck! It will all be worth it!
Oh gosh! I'd almost forgotten about some of this stuff. My biggest two i wish I had knows were
1. The big awesome boobs deflate after breastfeeding is over and are more like runny eggs.
and
2. The blood flow to the V area can cause painful throbbing that willl last for minutes loong loong minutes or all day.
Not sure if you've experienced this yet, but when you sneeze, you will leak pee. It will still happen AFTER you give birth too! So when you have to sneeze, cross your legs tightly, then sneeze. I kid you not.
I second the pillow between the legs that helped me tons, and the Zantac was a lifesaver. Also lemonade lots of lemonade helped with my morning (all day) sickness that I had, but did not help the heartburn. the minute I got out of bed everyday I had a glass of lemonade and a dry whole wheat toaster waffle. Oh and I got a horrible itchy rash in my 40 week that didn't go away until at least two weeks after my LO arrived, I thought I might scratch my skin off.
Here's a depressing one. Even if you had no stretch marks while pregnant, they will probably show up after you deliver and the skin loosens up. Also, unless you are a workout fiend, the muffin top is there to stay, lol. And kiss your perky boobs goodbye! Seriously, it's all totally worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
My worst stretch marks? All over my boobs. Those came about 3 days after baby arrived.
My best advice. Make SURE your postpartum nurse gives you a stool softener pill each day you're in the hospital. And keep taking them once you're home. Those first couple times post baby... ouch.
2. Yep, the throwing up keeps on keepin' on! If you have a problem with it when you brush your teeth, switching to cinnamon toothpaste helped me temporarily.
3. Yeah, the hip pain sucks. And if you sleep deeply one night and stay on one hip too long, it'll last well into the next day. Which affects how you move, which makes it more sore, which makes you stay on the other hip too long, etc. I found that sitting on a birth ball really helped open up my hips to relieve the pain.
What else? I agree, my nose grew wider. So did my feet. The extra testosterone my baby boy produced gave me awful zits and a nice crop of whiskers to boot. Breast leakage starts way sooner than you think it will. And the dizziness! If I got too hot, I'd get dizzy. More than once I had to sit down next to the ice cream coolers while grocery shopping to avoid passing out. If you get up too fast, it's really hard to keep from passing out too.
All hard to deal with, but so worth it!
