Finally a Comeback to a IF Comment

John and I attended a birthday party on Friday night for John's aunt. Everything was going well. until his cousin comes up to us and out of the blue said I heard you and John were having problems and I said what?? She said problems having children and I said oh yes we are and she said she was so sorry but she heard that adoption was really wonderful and maybe we should try that and I said if you think adpotion is so wonderful you should try it. I cannot believe I actually said it but I am so sick of hearing people say that to me. Anyway she said oh I did not mean it like that - I know it is not for everyone - blah, blah, blah, then I continued with adpotion is very expensive and can take years. Then I said John and I got pregnant once and we can get pregnant again and walked away - it felt good to finally say to someone what I should of been saying all along to those IF comments. John face was priceless he just looked so shocked.

I AM IMPRESSED! Keep doing that...there is no reason you need to just 'take it'....even when people dont feel they are being rude...they are! ...so annoying! good for you!

hehe! I LOVE IT!! Next time she will watch her mouth. The way I see it we can all slowly educate everyone and maybe one day people wont be so dense!

You go girl! I've often wanted to say something like that myself. If adoption is so gosh darn wonderful then why isn't everyone doing it? If one more person mentions adoption to me I swear I will kick them in the teeth! I know that people mean well, but unless they've actually experienced IF, I don't think they can possibly realize how ignorant they are being.

Good for you! I got the same adoption comment over the weekend from the new hair stylist that was doing my hair. They all seem to think adoption is the answer and everyone gets pregnant once they decide to adopt. Boy, if it were only that easy!

Good for you! One of my friends who had problems with infertility had the best comebacks when people asked her when she was going to have kids.

When people make the comments about adoption I think they are just trying to be helpful, because they haven't gone thru infertility they don't know how painful it is and adoption isn't for everyone so when those comments are made it rubs the wrong way. I was actually on the flipside and wanted to adopt and not do IVF because I was scared of IVF not working and I didn't want the heartbreak of that...I wanted a guantee that I would be a Mom, and then adoption for China didn't work out.(heartbreak) What!!!!???? So we went the IVF route.

You go Girl! People can be so ignorant of how much IF procedures and adoption can cost. I am sure that felt great!

GOOD FOR U!!! I have had so many comebacks that were never used or conversations I played out in my head. I am so proud of you for letting it all out! I hope I have the guts to some day!!

I remember way long ago when I thought people should adopt before IVF because there are kids who need a home. Well I never realized how expensive adoption could be. We are getting ready for round 2 of IVF (paid together) and I am thinking we may go to adoption next. I am sorry she said anything, some people just don't know. Good for you for sticking up for yourself.
