Hand Hand Fingers Thumb (A hit with our little one! her first word came from this book), Sandra Boynton books like 'Not the Hippopotamus', Dr. Seuss 'Oh the Places You'll Go',
Everyone named a bunch of good ones already - I also like Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Napping House (awesome!), most board books - my daughter loves reading!!
I think that for ages 0-12 months our most successful by far have been Sandra Boynton (favorites are Pajama TIme and Going to Bed Book) and Karen Katz (Where is Baby's Belly Button?, What Does Baby Say?, Where is Baby's Mommy? are favorites). Hope that helps!
Time for Bed by Mem Fox. It's the last book we read in our night time routine. I love the pictures, the rhymes, etc. My son quiets down immediately when we start reading the book. We started reading it day 1.
Sandra Boynton- The going to bed book. Time for Bed- Mem Fox (Both are good authors). Eric Carle is another good author- we like The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See. Goodnight moon is so annoying to me, but I am finding it to be very helpful in getting my older daughter to say words since she is delayed. Guess How Much I love You. The Runaway Bunny. Chika Chika Boom Boom. Pat the Bunny is good since it has a sensory piece too since you can feel different textures and look in the mirror. Caps for Sale. I suggest get board books for most of these since as much as I tried to keep the good books away if I am not around, they find them and pages get ripped and torn.

Also counting kisses by Karen Katz (another good author)
I love all the Dr. Suess books, and you can never go wrong with Winnie the Pooh!
