Sleep Trouble

I think it is too early in this pregnancy for me to be having sleep trouble but I am.  It is mainly my hips - I am usually a back sleeper so sleeping on my sides is difficult for me and I think all the pressure of my whole body - including my extra belly weight is just pressing on my hips the entire night - I wake up so very sore.  What can I do to make it better.  I have a boppy pregnancy pillow but it sucks - it is too puffy for me I am not that big yet.  So I have been sleeping with a down pillow between my knees and that does not seem to be helping so I tried putting a fluffy towel on the bed where my hip lays and that did not help - I am out of options - does anyone have any suggestions because I am not sleeping good at all and I am exhausted and it is far to early in my pregnancy to have such discomfort - right??

I used a firm king sized pillow. I clutch at my chest to hold the top arm up, then it curved under my belly and back up in between my knees. (Even when I was your belly size I would lift my baby belly up onto the pillow).

You could also try sleeping half sitting up, propped up by pillows or in a reclining chair.

Baby stores do sell a wedge that you could try it goes under your belly to support the belly and take the pressure off your hips.

I hope you can find a way to sleep!

I dont think its too early at all! Im only 8 weeks and I havent been sleeping well since the beginning. Im a stomach/side sleeper...but every time I wake up during the night (which is a lot) Im on my back. Maybe it's my body preparing me for not sleeping on my stomach?? Another blogger friend bought something called a "snoogle" ( I think thats what its called) and she swears by it.

I had a friend who had hip issues during her pregnancy. It had to do something with the baby moving the pelvic bones out of place. I forget what the diagnosis was called but there was really no "cure" for it except giving birth. You might want to check it out with your doctor

Go ahead and sleep on your back if that's what's most comfortable. I'm normally a stomach sleeper (that's right out!) and also find sleeping on my side very uncomfortable. I regularly find myself falling asleep, and waking up, on my back -- and I'm at 32+ weeks. I asked my midwife about this a few months ago, and she said "sleep however is comfortable, if there's a problem with blood flow, you'll wake up enough to move". It was quite reassuring.

It is definitely not too early. I used to be a stomach sleeper, and as soon as we conceived (before we found out we were expecting), it was uncomfortable for me to continue doing so. A little different, but that's just to point out it starts early!

Which side are you sleeping on, your left or your right? It is better to sleep on your left, as there will be less organ-squashing and potential for discomfort. I have a very sensitive appendix, so even not pregnant, I try to avoid sleeping on my right.

While pregnant, there were many nights where I piled up a bunch of pillows and slept semi-reclined. I never would have been able to normally, but by the end of the day, I was able to fall asleep relatively quickly. It was very comfortable for me at that time.

I agree a pillow under your bump helps so much. I used a long regular body pillow. It went under my bump and in between my legs.

No my belly felt saggy when I laid on my side and made things hurt early on as well. I used a pillow between my knees to align my hips correctly (doctor advice, and I LOVED it and still do it even though Baby is over a year old). I *also* got a small wedge pillow (like a wedge of cheese shaped) that went under my belly to help lift it. Maybe try that? Got mine at Babies R Us
