I finally was told what my maternity leave is going to be. I will get 8 weeks unpaid. I will not get a paycheck but my health insurance will still be paid for the 8 weeks I am out of work - which I think is fair.
If everything goes well - my last day will be January 20th and I will return to work on March 19th.
John is going to take a week of of work when the baby is born and two weeks of at the end of March.
Our little man will start daycare at the beginning of April. Now I just have to find one - I have a few places to call but I have been putting it off.
I did pick the baby's doctor though - I called them and they were great!!

It's too bad that you aren't eligible for the 12 wks of FMLA leave. GL finding daycare.
aww man...well you know, that more than a lot of people get so count your blessings i suppose.
I'm glad you found a great pediatrician...they make such a big difference when you're a new mom will a kajillion questions.
Good deal! Although some companies offer more, 8 weeks is great, better than 6 at others, and health insurance being covered is huge. You are so on top of everything...with the dr and everything. Good luck with the daycare search, I know it is such a pain. I know it may be weird since I only met you in person once, but I am so happy for you and look forward to your baby updates on your blog all the time!
Do you get any short term disability leave? Most companies offer 6 or 8 wks of paid (or partially paid) disability.
That's great that you found a pediatricial already.
I'm just so happy things are going so well!
That's not too shabby Jackie! That is great of them to continue paying for your health insurance.
Yay for finding your little man a doctor and good luck finding daycare for him!
OUCH! For a country that is all about Family, the USA sure needs to take some lessons from Canada.
We get PAID leave of one year. That is from the Gov't. It works out to be about 2/3rds of what you would normally get, but consider that you will not be going to work everyday, to the expenses of that is cut right down. Also I work for a govt department and we get "top up". Which means I get my full wage for a full year as long as I sign a form saying I will come back to work full time for 6 months, after my year of mat leave is up. If I decide not to come back, I would have to pay them back the top up.
It is VERY unusual to see a baby less than one year old in private or a center type daycare.
Something to be said for paying high taxes on our liquor and cigarettes, at least we get compassionate parenting leave.
