IVF Question Help

AF arrived today, so that means I can start my workout. I really want to lose 15 pounds in 2 months - not sure if I can do it but I am pretty determined. I want to be as healthy as I can be going into this IVF.

Today I have to call and get our referrals for our IVF consult. I am getting both excited and nervous - it will be nice to finally have some questions answered and have a plan and timeline in place.

I really do not know what to expect - I am not sure if they will even give me my protocol at the consult or if I will even meet with the RE - so if anyone knows what happens at a IVF consult - please share.

Also the big thing I ask of my readers who have gone through this - what question should I be asking at my consult? What things do I need to know?

Jackie,

At our consult, the RE explained the whole IVF process, what we would be doing, and which tests we needed to take before we started the process. I would say that the main questions to ask are the following: 1) What is the success rate of live births via IVF for your age group? 2)What does your RE think your chances of success are for you? and 3)Whether or not the RE thinks you'll have to go through the process more than once? I was told that owing to my age, I'm 39, I have a 30% chance of success of delivering a baby to term (live birth) and that I might have to go through IVF three times to be successful. Best of luck to you!

I agree with Suzanne. Just make sure the RE listenes to all you ask him and make sure you feel comfortable with him. Don't be afraid to ask "stupid" questions, they get them all the time and they want you to understand everything anyway. Good luck!!

I am so excited that your consult is coming up soon! Regarding your weight loss, the guideline is usually a pound a week so I woudl shoot for that. You are going to be healthier just by eating better and working out so try not to get to hung up on what the scale is telling you.

At my IVF consult we went over consent forms that needed to be signed, the process itself, and that he thought my chances were good. That basically was it, so don't expect a whole much out of that actual visit.

The IVF coordinator is the one who is really going to work with you throughout the whole process. The coordinator is the one who will talk with you about your calander, the meds you are ordering and from where, billing issues, any testing that still needs to be done, and basically any other thing you can think of. At both clinics the coordinator is the one who gave me my protocols, which were given after the consult. You will most likely have their cell number and can call them at anytime.

Hi Jackie,

I don't know about questions but I wanted to share with you the diet that I have been doing (well, okay, with the exceptions of cheating my way through the month of July!). It's specifically for PCOS, and I'm taking medicine too, but since I have had such success with the weight loss, I thought I would share.

I'm at just under 20 lbs. and I'm a week and a half away from 2 months. I was at 11 lbs. in the first 4 weeks and my cheating has caused me to slow a bit, but the diet really works! Granted, it's hard, but if you're really committed to it before the IVF it will be SO worth it. Check out my blog (specifically posts in June) for more info.

I also have my IVF consult comeing up. Mine is Aug 14th when is yours? I was told I will be talking to RE, getting blood work and an u/s done, talking to the coordinator about insurace coverage (or lack there of), grant programs etc, and scheduling any other tests that need to be done.
